Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India is organizing a mega international food summit, World Food India in New Delhi from 3 – 5 November 2017.
A Hackathon would be organized coinciding with the World Food India event.
Description : The carbon footprint of food produced and not eaten is estimated at 3.3 billion tons of greenhouse gases: making food wastage the third top GHG emitter after the U.S. and China. Fifty-four percent of the world’s food wastage occurs “upstream” during production, post-harvest handling and storage & about 46 percent of it happens “downstream,” at the processing, distribution and consumption stages. This problem could be addressed in a significant way through an App that could facilitate reduction of wastage of vegetables, fruits, eggs, poultry, packaged foods (nearing best before / expiry dates) etc by connecting farmers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers to prospective customers, non -profits, BPL families as Millions of people in India go hungry everyday.
The Food Processing Industry is one of the largest industries in India and ranks fifth in terms of production, consumption and exports. Food processing industry in India is a sunrise sector that has gained prominence in the recent years. Availability of raw materials, changing lifestyles and appropriate fiscal policies has given a considerable push to the industry’s growth.
