As per Census 2011, the differently abled population in India is 26.8 million. In percentage terms, this stands at 2.21%. Among five types of disabilities, „speech‟ disability constitutes of 7.5% of the total population. The percentage of disabled is highest in the age group 8-19 years. India has 12 million children living with disabilities. Speech impairment among children is a major concern. It isolates them from rest of the world. Communication is the biggest challenge they face. Overcoming the difficulties faced by them requires interventions to remove environmental and social barriers. Speech impaired children find it difficult to speak normally. Hence, they require a device which makes their communication process easier. Verbalizer is one such tool which works on the principle that when a word or sentence is being typed, the same is being spelled out through a speaker. This means, whatever message the child wants to convey, he/she would type the same. The work of the speaker is to read the same message that has been typed.
