Thermocol or Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a packaging material used to protect expensive products like TVs, Refrigerators and computers. Currently Thermocol after being used is thrown away and is not being recycled. It is either dumped in landfill, burnt openly causing air pollution or thrown in sewers leading to blockage of drains.
Thermocol is a plastic; is 100% recyclable and has a high value to recyclers. But it is 95% air and is a low weight – high volume (large space required) plastic waste product which making it expensive to collect, store and transport.
Due to this low weight high volume issue of EPS, economics does not work out. Therefore leading to a broken recycling system where EPS is sent to the landfills, drains or burnt.
The innovation Therminator; is a machine which compresses the Thermocol by removing the air. This makes it high weight and low volume product which can easily be transported for recycling.
The machine is cheap, low maintenance, low power, safe, no emissions, portable and easy to use machine.
Therminator therefore closes the loop of Thermocol waste generated, transforming it from waste to high value product.
