Life is something that can’t be given back. One of the most dangerous method of transportation is by road. In my locality, there have been many incidents where people crash on to a Road Divider. Though many get away with little to no scratches. But there also have been serious accidents where many people have died. Recently, there was a car crash in February. 11 people died. 1 had serious injuries. I realized something needed to be done to prevent these accidents.
I began to discuss with my father about what can be done to prevent these deaths. Then we went on to meet various people in the MIDC area as well as some survivors of such incidents. We found out the causes of these accidents. Mostly, carelessness was involved, as well as lack of attention due to mobile devices among other things. Further, I observed that many of the dividers are not visible in the dark as there are no warning signs that signal that there is a divider ahead. There are already preventive measures in place which involve reflective panels to reflect light in the dark. But I feel this is not enough. People not paying attention on road do not get this warning. They seem to need a bit more stimulus to pay attention.
My solution actually measures the distance between the Vehicle and the Divider. Depending on the distance, it makes a powerful light glow as well as activates a warning sound. If the Vehicle comes too close to the divider, it plays an even louder danger sound. This will get the attention of the driver and warn. It will prevent the car/truck/vehicle from crashing onto the divider. This will be useful in the dark as well and people will try to avoid the divider.
I am also thinking about sending a signal to the vehicle via a protocol like NFC which will then show an alarm on the dashboard and send an alarm to the phone. This can also be used in the railings of roads built on ghats and bridges to prevent people driving off the edge of the road. Also, this can be triggered to activate upon arrival of a train and warn people stepping over the yellow safety line. I feel that my prototype has many uses, it just needs to be adjusted a little bit to completely change the purpose.
