PHYSIO-THERAPEUTIC DEVICE FOR GUIDED MOUTH OPENING
The present disclosure relates generally to the field of physiotherapy devices. In particular, the present disclosure pertains to a physio-therapeutic device for use in various pathological conditions in which a person is suffering from reduced opening of mouth example submucpus fibrosis, carcinoma of mouth, post radiation fibrosis.
Reduced mouth opening or trismus is a common disease having a prevalence rate of 1-2 % in Indian subcontinent. Trismus leads to impair eating & swallowing, poor oral hygiene, dental decaying, improper phonation & speech, malnutrition, adverse facial appearance and reduced social interaction. This condition leads to subsidence in quality of life. Jaw motion appliances are physiotherapy devices for the jaw which help the trismus afflicted patients to increase the mouth opening.
Existing methods or appliances provide the physiotherapeutic advantage by augmenting the muscle tone, but they do not work in wide range of mouth opening; and some appliances are not user friendly.
The Appliance provides a better -assisted jaw motion rehabilitation system by exerting even pressure on muscles of mastication by taking fulcrum over multi-rooted posterior teeth with adjustable force over the Jaw; and the ease of use makes it very supportive for the patients.
