Low Cost Eco friendly Innovative Corrugated Swachh Bins for FCBM Noble Pledge #SwachhataHiSevag for New India Emerging
Innovator Name : Mr. Dharmendra Pandya, Viva Packaging Products, Admedabad
India is considered as one of the of the world. This potential is attributed to several indicators, the primary ones being its demographic trends and a rapidly expanding economy and by GDP India became world's fastest growing economy. The country must overcome many of the economic, social, and political problems before it can be considered a .
To overcome one of the social problems like to make India Clean our Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on 2nd October 2014.He said “A clean India would be the best tribute, India could pay to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150 birth anniversary in 2019.This Swachh Bharat Mission was launched throughout length and breadth of the country by inviting people to participate in the drive, the Swachhta Abhiyan has turned into a National Movement. A sense of responsibility has been evoked among the people through the Clean India Movement. With citizens now becoming active participants in cleanliness activities across the nation, the dream of a ‘Clean India’ once seen by Mahatma Gandhi has begun to get a shape. People from different sections of the society have come forward and joined this mass movement of cleanliness.
This year on 2nd October -2017 on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti our Federation of corrugated box manufacturers of India (FCBM) also took a pledge to distribute more than 1000 Corrugated Bins Pan India as a noble cause to support #SwachhataHiSeva mission and to make India clean Abhiyan.
FCBM New Market Development Committee (NMDC) lend the duty of developing an innovative corrugated Bins for this special cause to Mr. Haresh Mehta of M/s. Jayna Packaging, Mumbai and Mr.Dharmendra Pandya of M/s. Viva Packaging Products, Ahmedabad. Initially we both have submitted two different prototypes of corrugated bins with Art work. The design of bins were appreciated by the members of FCBM.
But I was not much satisfied with the proposed design because of many similarities of designs are already available on google and already used before. I wanted to innovate something new which never seen before even on google and suits our Indian atmospheric condition and also easily operate able. I dedicatedly started working and developed many prototypes and models of various shapes and sizes of corrugated bins. Being an engineer and Mathematician Suddenly one day it strike in my mind, the idea of hanging Triangular flap work on gravitational force The blue print of the bin now clear on my mind OMG “I got it”…..I immediately started working on it and hence a new Innovation took place Corrugated “ Swachha Bins”.
Corrugated bins called “Swachha Bins” is a composite structure developed for FCBM noble cause #SwachhataHiSeva is made out of 5 Ply corrugated board and it contains replaceable plastic garbage bags in it.
Shape: I select the perfect geometry polyhedron (polyhedron is a three-dimensional closed surface or solid, bounded by figures called ).and choose hexagonal prism shape because it is strongest shapes amongst the other prims like rectangular, cuboid etc. and also increasing a small amount of surface area it gives more volume comparing to rectangular prism. The structure of the bin are divided in three parts for convenience
(1) Collection Drum-Hexagonal Prism polyhedron type with detachable bottom tray
(2) Top removable Lid –combination of elongated triangular bipyramid and hexagonal prism polyhedron.
(3) Hanging Flap- Triangular prism shaped polyhedron Swingable auto close.
All the three parts are designed in such a way that it can be folded and pop up as and when needed to save space and easy bulk transportation pan India.
Size of Bin- 9 inch sides and 24 inch height Hexagonal drum with top cover of 9.5 inch and 11 inch height thus total 31 inch height complete structure. With apothem length 7.5 inch.
Geometry of Bin:
Shape Hexagonal Prism length sides s=6= 9 inch, Height h= 24 inch and Apothem length a=7.5 inch
Regular Hexagonal Prism
A Regular hexagonal Prism is a 6-sided polygon. A prism is a 3-dimensional object that has two parallel ends, called bases that have the same size and shape. The six sides of a prism, called lateral faces, are parallelograms of same length. Based on these definitions, it's probably easy for you to figure out that a hexagonal prism is a prism with two bases that are hexagons and six faces that are rectangles.
Surface Area of a Hexagonal Prism
The surface area of a 3D object is the area of all of the object's surfaces added together. Therefore, the surface area of a hexagonal prism would be the area of both of its bases plus the area of all of its six faces. That is,
Surface Area (SA) = 2 * (area of Regular hexagon base) + area of all 6 lateral faces
To find the area of one of these rectangles, we can multiply its length times its width. Its length is the height of the prism (called h), and the width is the length of one of the sides of the hexagon bases (call it s). Therefore,
Area of one of the rectangle faces is= sh, and all six of the faces have this same area = 6sh.
Second, we notice that a regular hexagon has an apothem. An apothem is the line from the centre of the hexagon to the centre of one of the hexagon's sides.
When we know the length of a regular hexagon's apothem, a, and the length of one of its sides, s, we can find the
Area of the hexagon using the formula A= 3as.
This simplification gives that the
Surface area of a regular hexagonal prism is
SA = 6s(a + h), or 6as + 6sh where s = side length of the base, a = apothem length, and h = height of the prism.
So in our Hexagonal Prism Surface Area = 6 x 9 (7.5+24)= 1701 sq inch
Volume of Hexagonal Prism:
Area of Hexagon Base (A) = ½ * a * 6 * s = 3as
Perimeter of Base (P) = 6s
Surface Area of Prism = 6as + 6sh = 6as + Ph
Volume of Prism = 3ash = Ah where a = apothem length, s = side, h = height
So in our Hexagonal Prism Volume = 3 X 7.5 X 9 X 24= 4860 cu inch
1cuinch=0.004329 gallon and 1 gallon= 3.785 litres = 79.63 litres say 80 litres.
Capacity: 80 Litres
Aesthetic Appearance: It was a challenge for me to make a top lid structure in such a way that the inner wall can lock and it can be easily fit on the drum without any lock hole fittings in all the six sides of lid to avoid cut which disturb the aesthetic look. I selected string which is placed in between two walls and tie when placed on drum for perfect fitting.
Paper and Flute Selection: We want to make the bins stronger and reusable hence we selected 5 ply narrow flute. Top paper 175 gsm +40BF imported and rest all 150gsm +18 BF to get BS of about 14-15 kg/cm2.
Die and Nylon Block for Printing Making & Printing: We prepared 4 different dies for various parts for platen die punching. Nylon blocks were made as per art work for paper printing in two colour black and blue #SwachhataHiSeva, FCBM logo, email, website and marking on flexo printing machine done.
Other Materials: GI wire, string, rubber washer, rivets etc.
Perfection of Engineering, Insects & Mosquito resist design, Low Cost, Re-Useable
Recyclable, Auto close flip lid, Removable top lid, Hexagonal Strong Shape
Easy Assemble, Foldable, Easy Handling, Various Capacities, Multi colour Printing
