Excessive or inappropriate consumption of alcohol is one of the most common and pervasive social problems in our society. It is a contributory factor to many accidents, injuries and medical conditions. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 2.5 million people die annually across the globe owing to excessive alcohol consumption. Similarly, 20% of the fatally injured drivers in the developed countries are found to have high blood alcohol content. This rise in number of road accidents owing to excessive alcohol consumption has created a demand for alcohol detection devices consequently boosting the overall growth of this industry. The Asia-Pacific region is witnessing the highest growth during the forecast period from 2013 to 2019. Breath analyzers do not directly measure the blood alcohol content or concentration, which requires systematic analysis of the blood sample. Instead, they estimate the Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) indirectly by measuring the amount of alcohol in one's breath. Existing Breathe Analyzer devices are equipped with 5-6 mouth pieces which needs to be washed after checking breathe of a victim. They are not hygiene, since germs may remain on it even after the wash. The same mouth piece has to be used by another person and it is harmful. Some communicable diseases may spread due to this methodology. This device runs on battery and we never know when the battery can go out of charge. The sensors in the device require re-calibration or replacement every 4-6 months. Not more than one person could be tested using the breath analyzer at a single point of time. Our Proposed Alco-Scan Tissues acts as a quick and non-invasive screening tool to detect the Alcohol content in the breathe sample by changing its color. When the suspect blows on the tissue, the alcohol content in their breath reacts with the potassium dichromate on the tissue and there exists an immediate and permanent color change of the tissue from light orange to dark green. Our proposed method is fast, cheaper and accurate. We can have a color chart to measure the concentration of alcohol in the breath instead of BAC levels. We can use this self-checking breath analyzing tissue paper in places like pubs, bars, restaurants, charities, weddings and all types of licensed events. Advantages of using these Alco-scan tissues are Harmless, Hygienic, Flush-able, Easy to carry, Instant result, Eco-Friendly, Cheap and Accurate.
