Realistic information about our national bird, Peafowl itself is not available for the country. Moreover there is information in many agrarian belts that this bird has taken the role of a pest and gets in to conflicts with local farmers. Similarly information available on the status, distribution and abundance of most of our State Birds are very low. These bird species are given the status of our national or state bird, due to some socio political or ecological significance. They represent the pride of our citizen, but the knowledge base about their distribution, population and general ecology is sparse. We need a digital information system framework which can handle a participatory surveillance system of the population and distribution of these species.
